Week 8 Layout Linky - The Painted Desert Layout

Anyone else had a hectic week? I almost had my layout for the week finished on Saturday, but then life got crazy and I haven't had time to sit down and finish it until this morning. Hope nobody is getting tired of pictures from my Arizona vacation yet. I'm almost done scrapping; just Sedona and the ride home remain to be scrapped. Yay! Anyway, for today's layout I used an old sketch from the Nuts about Sketches blog (Week 3 Bonus). Enjoy.

Week 7 Layout Linky - Wupatki

Ever had a layout that just wouldn't come together? That was this layout for me. I had some great ideas, but every time I sat down to work on it, I ended up walking away frustrated. Today I finally decided to just finish it, and it's so nice to have it done and my workspace cleared off! I used a challenge from Split Coast Stampers: create a layout using inspiration found from something in the Kirkland’s online catalog. I found some cute wall decor pieces that had a spiral motif in wire, so I imitated those using some artist's wire. To create the spirals on the Dutch Blue cardstock, I placed a metal spiral clip under the cardstock and used a finishing file to sand away the color, revealing the white core underneath. Cool, huh? I also used EMS Sketch Challenge 2 for the pattern.

Week 6 Layout Linky - Lava Flow Trail

As promised, here is the layout and the linky for the week. I used EMS Sketch 24, which I posted yesterday. Here's a fun technique I invented for this layout:

1. Stamp a row of trees at the top of a piece of cardstock using third generation ink.
2. Cut a curving line towards the bottom of your row of trees.
3. Layer the cut off piece of cardstock over the original piece, making sure to overlap a little.
4. Stamp another row of trees below the first using second generation ink.
5. Repeat steps 2 and 3.
6. Stamp another row of trees at the bottom of the cardstock using first generation ink.
7. Without reinking, fill in any dead spaces by stamping the trees again.

Voila, you have a forest / mountain scene! You could probably do this with other types of stamps, but it was fun to do with the trees. Now let's see what you talented ladies come up with for the week.

EMS Sketch Challenge 24

It's been a while since I did a sketch challenge, so I thought I would post one this week. It's totally optional, but if you want to use the sketch, it would be fun to see some variations on it. I'm almost done with my layout and will hopefully have it posted by tomorrow, along with the link for this week's challenge. Remember, you can alter the sketch to fit your photos, rotate it, etc., whatever you want to make it fit your needs. Have fun!

Week 5 Layout Linky - Climb into History Layout

Does anyone else have a hard time believing it is already February? Where did the first four weeks of 2011 go? Kudos to the scrappers who are participating in this layout a week challenge with me. You're doing a great job and I'm enjoying your layouts. So far, Michelle and Valerie are leading the pack; they have completed a layout every week - woohoo! For anyone who still wants to participate, it's not to late to join in!

Here's my layout for the week. I found a new sketch blog, and I thought I would try one of the sketches. This is Sketch Support 2-page sketch #5 (whew, that's a mouthful)!
